FirstGroup agrees £14 million desktop managed services deal with Computacenter

October 2010

Leading transport operator FirstGroup has partnered with Computacenter to provide a range of desktop services that will support business growth, minimise costs and enhance the end user experience.

The five-year contract, which includes a central service desk, deskside support and product supply, covers 5,500 users at 650 offices, railway stations and bus depots throughout the UK.

Glenn Bladon, Group Head of IT Services at First commented: "Computacenter demonstrated that it has the scale and expertise in desktop services to ensure a high-quality service for our end users. It also offered a good cultural fit and an attractive commercial proposition."

FirstGroup is Britain's largest bus operator, running more than one in five of all local bus services. Its fleet of some 8,500 buses carry three million passengers a day in more than 40 major towns and cities.
First is also Britain's largest rail operator with four passenger franchises: First Great Western, First Capital Connect, First TransPennine Express and ScotRail.

As part of the service, Computacenter will assist FirstGroup in developing its IT strategy and advise on new innovative technologies that can improve efficiency and enhance the quality of IT services. Request, incident, problem and asset management will be provided from Computacenter's service desk in Milton Keynes. The IT services and solutions company will also be responsible for provisioning hardware, including desktops and laptops.

Kevin James, Director of the industry sector at Computacenter commented: "The services delivered to FirstGroup will be based on industrialised best practices developed within our Shared Services Factory. By implementing repeatable processes we can deliver predictable outcomes in a cost-effective manner."

The contract with Computacenter is part of First's new multi-sourcing approach to IT services. The service will go live in Q1 2011.
