Computacenter Mainframe Services:
Case Study - Leo Pharmaceuticals

Introduction

Leo Pharmaceuticals is the British member of the international group of research-based pharmaceutical companies controlled by the Leo Foundation in Copenhagen. As a company, key values are innovation, independence, efficiency, stability and above all responsibility. Leo Pharmaceuticals has a strong heritage of research and development which has resulted in groundbreaking New Chemical Entities coming to the prescription market.

Business Challenge

Leo Pharmaceuticals identified a shortage of IT skills which were needed whilst their own IT staff were on training courses. There was also a need to improve the efficiency of information delivery throughout the company.

Solution

Leo Pharmaceuticals initially asked Computacenter Computer Services to resolve their skills shortage by providing IT support, then to improve the efficiency of information delivery throughout the business. The project consisted of four stages:

  • Look at existing design tools.
  • Select application.
  • Identify project requirements
  • Test environment requirements

Result

"Computacenter provided a Systems Support Specialist, who became our first line of IT support and was always the quickest to pick up and resolve end user problems." commented the IT Manager for Leo Pharmaceuticals.

"We were comfortable to let Computacenter work on the company wide information delivery project without monitoring the Systems Support Specialist too closely. An agreed reporting structure with regular feedback allowed Leo Pharmaceuticals to optimise Computacenter’ expertise."

As the project progressed Computacenter’ expert skills were transferred to Leo Pharmaceuticals’ own IT employees.

Recommendation

"The Computacenter specialist worked well with the Leo Pharmaceuticals user base, they spoke favourably and asked when he would come back. He integrated into our IT department, our staff were happy to share and discuss their views. The Computacenter specialist was willing to ask questions and regularly offered improvement ideas." Leo’s IT Manager explained.

"Now we have been able to make a fully informed decision in choosing the technology we need to improve information delivery, and we have the skills in house to make that jump. Some of those skills were passed on to our own staff by Computacenter. It’s been a positive relationship for Leo Pharmaceuticals.
